The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of ₹131 crore for India’s squad that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The prize money is ₹6 crore higher than the ₹125 crore reward announced following India’s previous T20 World Cup triumph in 2024.

The announcement came a day after India secured the title with a dominant victory over New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India’s campaign was led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, with the team delivering consistent performances throughout the tournament to become the first side in ICC men’s T20 World Cup history to successfully defend the title.

₹6 Crore Higher Than the 2024 Reward

The ₹131 crore prize marks a modest increase compared with the ₹125 crore reward that the BCCI distributed after India’s T20 World Cup victory in 2024 under then-captain Rohit Sharma.

According to officials, the increased reward reflects the significance of India defending the title and becoming the first team to win the men’s T20 World Cup three times.

The BCCI traditionally distributes such rewards among players, coaching staff, support personnel, and members of the cricket administration involved in the campaign.

Historic Victory in Ahmedabad

India’s title win carried additional significance because it came at the same venue where the team had suffered a defeat to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

This time, however, the outcome was different as India delivered a dominant performance in front of a packed crowd.

Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 255 for 5, one of the highest scores recorded in a T20 World Cup final.

The team’s top-order batting proved decisive, with the first three batters each scoring half-centuries.

New Zealand struggled during the chase and India secured the championship with a comprehensive victory.

Sanju Samson Named Player of the Tournament

Among the standout performers of the tournament was Sanju Samson.

The opening batter maintained a strong run of form in the knockout stages and registered three consecutive scores above 80 runs.

His consistent performances during crucial matches earned him the Player of the Tournament award.

Samson’s contributions were widely regarded as a key factor in India’s successful campaign.

Dominant Tournament Run

India’s journey through the tournament reflected consistent performances across both batting and bowling departments.

The team lost only one match during the competition, a defeat to South Africa in the Super Eight stage.

Apart from that setback, India remained largely dominant and entered the final as one of the strongest teams in the tournament.

The victory over New Zealand in the final capped a campaign that showcased the team’s depth and balance.

Part of a Strong ICC Trophy Run

India’s latest T20 World Cup title continues a strong phase for Indian cricket in ICC tournaments.

The sequence of major international achievements includes:

  • Men’s T20 World Cup – 2024
  • ICC Champions Trophy – 2025
  • Men’s T20 World Cup – 2026

The success has not been limited to the men’s senior team. Indian women’s and junior teams have also secured major ICC titles in recent years.

For instance, the Indian women’s team received ₹51 crore in prize money after winning the Women’s ODI World Cup last year.

India also won the Under-19 World Cup, reflecting the strength of its developmental cricket system.

India’s Growing Global Cricket Dominance

With the latest victory, India now holds multiple ICC trophies across men’s, women’s, and age-group cricket.

Analysts attribute this sustained success to a strong domestic cricket structure, consistent talent development, and depth in the national squad.

The team’s ability to combine experienced players with emerging talents has helped maintain performance levels across tournaments.

What Lies Ahead

Looking forward, the Indian women’s team will next compete in the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, aiming to add another global title.

For the men’s team, the next major international target will be the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup.

If India manages to win that tournament as well, it could potentially hold the T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, and ODI World Cup titles simultaneously—an achievement that has been rare in international cricket history.

For now, the ₹131 crore reward stands as recognition of a historic tournament campaign and India’s continued dominance in global cricket.
