New Delhi:
A serious criminal case has been reported from northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura area, where a six-year-old girl was allegedly subjected to sexual assault. Delhi Police confirmed that three minors, all below the age of 15, have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

According to police officials, the family of the child approached authorities on January 18, following which an investigation was immediately initiated. Based on preliminary findings, three boys aged 13, 14 and 15 — all residents of the same locality — were identified and detained.

Law enforcement authorities stated that the case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Since the accused are juveniles, they have been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, and further proceedings are being carried out in accordance with juvenile justice laws.

Senior police officials said that initial inquiries revealed that the minors were working at a local factory. Investigators are currently examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to reconstruct the sequence of events and establish accountability.

The child was promptly taken for a medical examination, after which her statement was recorded in a child-friendly environment, as mandated by law. Authorities have also ensured that counselling, care and psychological support are being provided to the victim.

The incident has sparked public anger in the locality, with residents staging protests over what they described as delays in the investigation. Police, however, have maintained that the probe is being conducted on a priority basis and in strict compliance with legal procedures.

A senior officer reiterated that the identity of the child is being fully protected and urged the public and media to avoid speculation or circulation of unverified information. “All aspects of the case are being examined thoroughly, and appropriate legal action will follow based on evidence,” the officer said.

The case has once again drawn attention to child safety concerns and the need for community vigilance, while authorities continue to stress zero tolerance for crimes against children.
