A 26-year-old businessman was brutally assaulted in south Delhi’s Mehrauli area after he intervened to stop a group of men from harassing women late Monday night. The victim was beaten, pelted with stones, and dragged on the road before bystanders stepped in. Delhi Police has arrested all four accused involved in the attack.
The victim, Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Sangam Vihar, runs a transport business and lives with his family. According to police and family members, the incident took place after the family returned from a wedding at a relative’s home. Mukesh chose to head back separately later in the night.
Incident at Tea Stall Escalates
On his way home, Mukesh stopped at a tea stall on IGNOU Road, where four young men and three women were present. Police said the men were allegedly making lewd remarks and harassing the women. When Mukesh objected and asked them to stop, the situation escalated from a verbal argument into a violent attack.
Beaten, Dragged, and Left Injured
According to investigators, the accused knocked Mukesh to the ground and continued to assault him with kicks and punches. Stones were also thrown at him, causing serious injuries. Videos recorded by nearby residents show the attackers repeatedly hitting Mukesh even after he fell, and later dragging him onto the road after he lost consciousness.
In one of the clips, an accused can be seen lifting a brick and moving towards the victim, before being stopped by an elderly man. Police said the attacker, who appeared to be intoxicated, then turned on the elderly man and shouted abuses, allegedly saying, “Do you even know who I am?”
Police Action
Bystanders alerted the police and helped rush the injured businessman to a hospital. Delhi Police said all four accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway. Officers are examining video footage and other evidence to determine the exact sequence of events and appropriate charges.
Police officials reiterated that harassment of women and violence against those who intervene will be dealt with strictly, and appealed to the public to report such incidents promptly.
