Meerut | RBN News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday criticised the Congress party over its protest during the AI Impact Summit in Delhi, alleging that it had turned an international event into a platform for what he described as “gandi aur nangi” (dirty and shameless) politics.

Addressing a public rally in Meerut after inaugurating and flagging off development projects worth approximately ₹12,930 crore, the Prime Minister said the conduct of Congress leaders at the summit reflected “ideological bankruptcy” and harmed the country’s image.

AI Summit Protest Draws Sharp Criticism

Referring to a protest by Congress leaders at the global artificial intelligence summit held in Delhi, Mr. Modi alleged that the party had staged a “shirtless” demonstration in the presence of international delegates.

He stated that representatives from over 80 countries and heads of state from around 20 nations had attended the summit, calling it a matter of national pride. The Prime Minister questioned the need for such a protest at an event he described as a “programme of the nation.”

“The Artificial Intelligence Global Summit was not a BJP programme; it was a programme of the nation,” Mr. Modi said, adding that political opposition should not extend to international forums hosted by India.

He also thanked several Opposition parties for criticising the protest, saying they stood with “truth and national pride.”

Development Projects Launched in Meerut

During the visit, Mr. Modi inaugurated and flagged off key infrastructure projects, including the Namo Bharat rail and the Meerut Metro Rail extension. The projects are part of broader efforts to strengthen urban mobility and regional connectivity in western Uttar Pradesh.

The Namo Bharat train service is expected to improve transit between Delhi and Meerut, while the metro extension aims to enhance intra-city connectivity.

The Prime Minister said these initiatives form part of the government’s broader push toward infrastructure-led growth and economic development.

Political Remarks Targeting Congress

Continuing his criticism, Mr. Modi alleged that Congress leaders were unable to accept India’s global progress and were engaged in efforts to defame the country.

“While citizens are working day and night to make India a developed nation, some political parties cannot digest the country’s success,” he said.

He further alleged that Congress leaders had crossed “all limits” in their criticism of him personally but emphasised that national events should not be politicised.

Mr. Modi also noted that the actions were limited to Congress leaders and did not involve other opposition parties such as the Trinamool Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Bahujan Samaj Party, or the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference.

Context: AI Impact Summit

The AI Impact Summit in Delhi brought together global leaders, policymakers, and technology executives to discuss artificial intelligence governance, innovation, and cooperation. According to official figures, more than 80 countries participated in the event.

The summit concluded with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration, endorsed by multiple participating nations.

What Happens Next

The remarks are expected to intensify political exchanges between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

Congress leaders had not issued a formal response to the Prime Minister’s remarks at the time of publication.

Political observers say the controversy may continue to feature in campaign narratives, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, where infrastructure development and national pride themes remain central to political messaging.
