New Delhi:
A structural collapse was reported on Thursday in Preet Vihar, triggering a swift response from emergency services. Teams from the Delhi Fire Services reached the location shortly after receiving an alert and began assessment and precautionary operations.
According to officials, the fire department was informed about the incident near the old Water Board office in the area. On inspection, it was found that a section of the structure — identified as a false ceiling within the old office premises — had collapsed. Firefighters secured the site and checked the surrounding area for any potential risks.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties have been reported so far. As a precaution, movement around the affected zone was restricted while teams ensured that no one was trapped beneath the debris and that the remaining structure posed no immediate danger.
Officials said further technical evaluation will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the collapse, including whether structural ageing, material fatigue or lack of maintenance contributed to the incident. Civic agencies are expected to conduct a detailed safety audit of the premises.
The incident comes amid growing concern over building safety in parts of the capital. In recent months, Delhi has witnessed multiple cases of partial or complete structural failures, including a collapse in Jwala Nagar that left several people injured, and an earlier incident in the Welcome area of northeast Delhi where a multi-storey building collapse resulted in multiple fatalities.
Emergency services have reiterated the importance of routine structural inspections, especially for older buildings and premises undergoing renovation or modification.
Authorities have advised residents in the vicinity to remain cautious until the inspection process is completed. More details are awaited as officials continue to monitor the situation.
