A loan recovery agent was allegedly murdered following a financial dispute in Jharkhand, with police recovering his body from a residential apartment in Dhanbad and arresting the accused.

According to the police, the victim, Amit Kumar Agarwal, had been reported missing by his family. His body was later found inside a flat owned by Vikas Khandelwal at Surya Highland Society, located in Dhanbad’s Sadar area.

Accused Confessed During Interrogation

Police said Vikas Khandelwal was taken into custody based on technical surveillance and mobile phone location tracking. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the murder, after which the body was recovered from the flat on his disclosure.

Financial Dispute Emerges as Motive

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Naushad Alam said preliminary findings indicate that the murder was triggered by a loan settlement dispute involving nearly ₹1 crore.

“Initial investigation suggests there was a serious disagreement between the accused and the deceased over a large loan amount. This dispute appears to be the primary motive behind the crime,” the DSP said.

Ransom Calls Raised Suspicion

The case surfaced after Amit Agarwal’s family filed a missing person complaint. Police later found that ransom calls demanding ₹15 lakh were being made using the victim’s mobile phone after his disappearance.

Investigators traced the phone activity and call detail records, which ultimately led them to the accused.

Probe Continues

Police said further investigation is underway to:

  • Reconstruct the exact sequence of events
  • Determine whether other individuals were involved
  • Verify the ransom demand angle and financial transactions

“All aspects of the case are being examined thoroughly,” a senior police officer said.

Authorities added that additional arrests or charges may follow as the investigation progresses.
